![]() ![]() Then I used HxD Hex Editor 1.7.7.0 portable to replace Frostschutz's serial no. I made a copy from the original image and renamed it The expanded file size was 3,965,190,144 bytes. From Frostschutz's image archive, I extracted the image file using WinRAR. I had a spare "Strontium Nitro" 32GB UHS-1 microSD card lying around my house. All the used software tools are freeware. Use this method only if you don't bother about the warranty. Remember this procedure will void any warranty from Kobo. My success story in restoring the bricked Aura H2O in detail for others who are in the same situation.Īs the device has become totally frozen, I followed this procedure to put it back to good use. But I don't want to open the device until the last resort. I have the image of H2O courtesy of frostschutz. This device I bought in US in November 2015 through Amazon and now I am in Saudi Arabia. I have tried almost all the tricks available on Internet. But the screen illumination LED lamps in the bottom are switched off. You can see the power light glowing in the image. The computer makes the sound of disconnecting USB drive and reconnecting. I get the ding dong sound (which we get when a flash drive or an external drive connected), but the H2O's internal drive does not appear on PC. Tried connecting the device to the laptop. ![]() Sometimes the power light appears continuously brightly, sometimes it blinks and other-times it just appears dim or switches off.Ĭharged the device for few hours. The screen blinks twice and goes back to white screen. Tried the reset button with pin, Tried the double tap in the bottom screen with power button. Next day morning read most of the posts from the Mobileread forum for rescuing the H2O and tried all the tricks explained in them. Tried to boot with power button but nothing happened. When I tried to open the Library menu in Settings, suddenly the system hanged with a white screen. In the night I was going through various menus in the device to check. Left the device without adding any books for few hours. Updated to the latest firmware through Wi-Fi. Thought of doing a clean factory reset from Settings and everything went well. Afterwards found the device booted and seems working. Then connected to standalone USB charger and left it alone for few hours. The device does not restart and was at a blank screen. Shutdown the device and removed the microSD and restarted the device. After waiting for long time thought something is wrong with the library. This restarted the device and again the processing books bar appeared with no progress. Tried to reset with a single poke on the reset button in the bottom. I waited and waited and nothing happened. The processing books bar has appeared and that bar stayed for long time at 6%. Then I added few more books to the microSD and ejected the device. Deleted all the books from the Library menu.Īdded some books using the Calibre to microSD and everything went well. Thought of removing all the books and start afresh. I have added some books to microSD using Calibre(64bit 2.60.0 on Windows 10 Pro 圆4 laptop) and everything went well. This was an issue on one laptop we upgraded to Windows 10 during testing and several drivers either didn't upgrade or were left in an unknown condition.I always keep my books are on the inserted 32GB microSD on my H2O. Remove any greyed out items under that item and then any greyed out items (USB Mass Storage Device for example) under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers item. Look for Kobo devices under the Portable Devices item. zip file (showhiddendevices.cmd) to your desktop, right click and run as administrator, select show hidden devices from the View menu. My preferred alternative is the batch file attached to this message. Easiest way is to use Nirsoft's USBDeview. You might want to try removing the Kobo and other devices from device manager and then reconnecting them. What should I do? Is there somethere a Windows 10 usb driver for Kobo devices I could install? I checked that the usb connection works because Windows recognices my usb memory stick. ![]() ![]() I have a problem: after I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 my Kobo devices don't show up in Windows explorer (also my android ereader Boyue has the same problem). ![]()
